    PURE RAIN (7) turned in a strong performance when resuming when in the money at Kyneton but disappointed last time when seventh, beaten 5. 5 lengths, at Stawell over 6½f. Nicely placed to bounce back. THE MARINER (2) was out of the money two runs back then again missed the frame last start over 5f141yards at Geelong, beaten 7 lengths into tenth after being in contention on the corner. Won't find this as tough so he is a major player. DON'TCALLMECHAMP (4) was well fancied when resuming last start and proved too strong, scoring by one length over 6f at Wagga. Fitter for that last hitout and he looms as a significant threat. SPINHOF (6) was prominent at the bend and finished second last start over 5f at Penshurst, beaten 1. 5 lengths. Ready to go one better.
