EXTRAVAGENT LAD (1) was out of the money when resuming from a lay-off last start over 5f at Canberra, beaten 2 lengths. Meets a stronger field but he is fitter and up to the task. RANTAN (3) found the line nicely last start to get up for second over 4½f at Newcastle. Solid prospects. MADRINA (10) returned from a lay-off two-and-a-half weeks ago when she was beaten 3 lengths into fourth over 5f at Kembla Grange. Second up record is sound. Going up a level this time but she is good enough to play a major role. COUPLES RETREAT (13) returns after a lay-off of five months. Started the last campaign impressively when in the placings over 5½f at Hawkesbury. Looks one of the genuine hopes in the race.
